I get to judge another writing contest. This will be my sixth time judging. I started judging after I placed in the first two contests I entered and now that I don't have the time to pursue a career in writing, it's one of the things that keeps my writing skills sharp until my kids are older and I'm not homeschooling any more. I keep telling myself "just wait, your time will come". It's not easy to remember that all the time, though. So in the meantime, I blog, I teach, I edit, I judge, I critique--all things that keep my writing mind active while I'm waiting. So I get the entries I will be judging the day after Thanksgiving. I always look forward to that, but I am always slightly disappointed that most of them are not "publish-ready". I guess I want to find a diamond...this must be what editors at publishing houses feel like.
